Does your double chin bother you every time you look into the mirror? If you would like to get rid of your double chin and enhance the overall appearance of your chin and jawline, Kybella injections may be the perfect treatment for you.

What Is Kybella?

Kybella is an FDA approved injectable drug specifically designed to reduce extra fat below the chin (submental fat). In this process, multiple deoxycholic acid injections are administered below the chin. This acid is found naturally in the body. Kybella is an artificial form of this acid. After the injection, the deoxycholic acid demolishes the walls of the fat cells. This makes them unable to hold fat and the fat melts away. The fat cells are then naturally excreted by the body.

Is Kybella Right for Me?

Kybella injections are safe only if administered by an experienced healthcare professional who has been trained to perform Kybella treatments. You should avoid Kybella if you are pregnant or nursing. Our team will ask about any allergies you may have to make sure Kybella is a safe choice for you. Inform your healthcare professional about any health issues you have experienced related to the neck area, as well as any procedures you may have had around the neck and jawline.

Dr. Jacobson will closely examine your chin to determine if Kybella is the right choice for you. If you have undergone any cosmetic procedures like facial peels, lasers or ultrasounds then you will have to schedule your Kybella injections two weeks after those procedures.

Your Kybella Consultation

A Kybella consultation will be a discussion of your appearance goals and complete medical history. Dr. Jacobson will explain the advantages of Kybella in detail, along with possible outcomes after the treatment. After a review of your medical history, Dr. Jacobson will determine if Kybella is safe for you. It is important to disclose any allergies, along with all current medications and supplements.

How to Prepare for a Kybella Treatment

It is highly recommended that you avoid smoking for 4 to 6 weeks and drinking alcohol for at least 48 hours prior to your treatment. These are lifestyle choices that negatively affect the body’s healing process. Bruising and swelling after the treatment is normal, but the body experiences much less bruising and swelling when smoking and drinking alcohol are avoided.

A week before your Kybella session, avoid non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications, certain herbal supplements, and food with garlic; these could increase the risk of bruising.

Working out after the session can also increase the risk of bruising. You may safely resume working out three to five days after treatment once swelling resolves.

Arnica can help with post-treatment bruising. You may take this natural herb three days before your Kybella session.

Kybella Injections

Dr. Jacobson will mark the injection sites. Multiple injections will be needed. Most patients feel mild discomfort. You will be given an ice pack to keep you comfortable. The treatment takes approximately ten to fifteen minutes. Three to four treatments are typically required and are spaced one month apart.

Kybella Recovery

To reduce discomfort, post treatment, place an ice pack on the treated area. The ice pack should be placed for no longer than 20 minutes and removed for 20 minutes before reapplying. This should only be necessary the following day. You will be advised against applying any force at the treatment area. Drinking plenty of fluids is advisable. You should avoid strenuous physical activity for 3-5 days after this treatment. Exposure to sun and heat should also be avoided. You will be advised to sleep on your back and keep your head in an elevated position for a few days.

Kybella Results

Fat melting is a slow process. The results of your Kybella treatments will be visible after a month or so once the swelling has subsided. Although one treatment can provide noticeable results, typically 3-4 sessions are recommended for complete fat removal, with a minimum of one-month gap between sessions. Once removed, the fat does not return.

How Much Does a Kybella Treatment Cost?

The total price of Kybella will depend on factors like the number of treatment sessions needed to achieve your appearance goals and the amount of Kybella required. Consultations with Dr. Jacobson are complimentary, and following the discussion of your specific treatment plan, you will be able to speak with our financing department for a quote and payment options.
