Facelift
Conveniently located to serve Rochester
A facelift, also known as a rhytidectomy, is a facial rejuvenation procedure that can reduce the appearance of visible signs of aging that rob the face of its natural beauty. At Jacobson Plastic Surgery, we offer facelift surgery for patients who want to look as young as they feel.
Is a Facelift Right for Me?
Do you remember that first time you looked in a mirror or saw a picture and said – is that really me? Are you frustrated that people are asking if you’re tired or stressed?
The premise that you have to just “live with it” and look your age, while you feel years younger, is nonsense. We would all love to do something about our sagging neck, jowls, or folds in the cheeks, but we fear the over-pulled, tight or wind blown look that is often seen as part of the stereotypical “facelift” in magazines, or pop-culture.
The Benefits of a Facelift
Did you know that a well-performed facial rejuvenation with a facelift can look beautiful and natural? It’s all about understanding the aging process and knowing the techniques to correct it. Modern facelift techniques operate on the support layer of the face, beneath the skin. It might look as if your skin has sagged, but actually it sits on a sagging support layer – and that is where the correction needs to take place. The surgery gently restores this layer to its former youthful position and the overlying skin follows it naturally into position. There is no stretched or pulled look, only restoration of the youthful natural contours of the face. The benefit is lasting, because there is no stretching or pulling on the skin. Dr. Jacobson can pair fat transfer with a facelift to add volume back to depleted areas due to the aging process.
Facelift Preparation
You will be given specific instructions on how to prepare for your facelift surgery during your consultation with Dr. Jacobson. During the appointment, you will need to discuss any pre-existing medical conditions, past surgeries, and drug allergies.
You must be absolutely upfront and honest with Dr. Jacobson about your concerns, goals, and expectations. This will help him develop a treatment plan to match your expectations and make you feel as safe and comfortable as possible.
You will be told to avoid all nicotine before and after the facelift procedure. Dr. Jacobson will also advise you to stop taking any herbal supplements or NSAIDs. You will need to make plans for someone to drive you the day of your surgery.
Choosing the Right Surgeon to Perform Your Facelift
After completing 7 years of surgical training at the Mayo Clinic, Dr. Jacobson focused additional timed training to correct the aging face, specifically to achieve natural and beautiful, youthful results. In his time at Mayo he published his work in surgical journals on the safety of these procedures in his hands.
Recovering from a Facelift
In the past, this type of surgery required longer recovery time, but recent advances have resulted in minimal bruising or swelling, allowing the return to work and activities of daily living, much more quickly. Some swelling and bruising may still occur but typically subside within a few weeks. Any pain or discomfort that may occur, can be managed with oral medication.
Facelift Aftercare
For the first week or two following facelift surgery, you will wear a compression garment. Exercising, bending forward and lifting heavy objects should be avoided for at least four weeks following the facelift procedure. In addition to worsening swelling, this may raise blood pressure and cause hemorrhage. It is important to avoid excessive sun exposure, and smoking is prohibited during recovery.
The Cost of a Facelift
Each facelift is personalized to provide the patient with results that satisfy their aesthetic needs. Dr. Jacobson can discuss the price of the procedure and go over your payment options during the consultation.
